The Museum of the National Taipei University of Education (MoNTUE) acquired of a plaster cast collection in 2006 from the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MMA) in New York. This rare plaster cast collection dates back to the 19th century and was commissioned by the MMA with a sophisticated workshop near the Musée du Louvre. It is a comprehensive and noted collection which includes more than one hundred pieces and span across an extended period of time from the Ancient Greece & Rome, the medieval age, the Renaissance, to the 19th Century. With this collection, MoNTUE invite Charles T. Little, the senior researcher and curator of the MMA, who specializes in the medieval art for a 4-5 week residency program to have a series of educational lectures, workshops, consultations and provide expert advice for the set-up and installation of plaster cast pieces. The overall projects aims to relocate the classic pieces from the western history in a new contemporary, Asian context. Furthermore, the project deepens the understanding of this collection and invigorates the historical heritage in a contemporary setting.
