Mona: A Sexual Improvement Kit for Women with Gynaecological issues

  • Ellie Shearman

Mona is a kit to help women with vaginismus and endometriosis who experience chronically painful sex. It aims to not only improve their sexual experience but empower them and give them more sexual confidence.

1 in 10 women have endometriosis and 1 in 500 have Vaginismus.
Mona has redesigned vaginal dilation therapy to better connect with sex therapy through the use of an additional vibrator and a wellbeing guidance app. Instead of making the user feel like they are treating a medical issue, the kit aims to relax the user, allowing them to enjoy the process and grow their self-confidence. Mona tackles the pain cycle often created by painful sex through stimulation and distraction. By using a vibrator, it plays upon pleasurable experiences to reduce the anxieties around penetration. The app uses guided sex therapy methods that aim to make the dilation process more relaxing. It also comes with a progress tracker to remind the user of personal achievements and to show them just how far they have come.
Around one in ten women are affected by endometriosis and one in 500 are affected by vaginismus. These women often go through long periods of misdiagnosis and struggle with painful sex. The pain they experience is often normalised or considered to be a trivial complaint, rather than a serious medical issue. By the time they are diagnosed correctly, they have lost a lot of confidence and are disheartened about their future. Sufferers often express concerns about being able to ever have sex, find love or start a family. The kit wants to help these women and be a starting point for a happy future regarding their sexual health.
