Monotype x Secret 7" Posters

For this year’s Secret 7” exhibition at Somerset House, Monotype commissioned us, along with six other designers, to create a series of limited-edition typographic prints based on this year’s tracks. Unlike the main event, the brief was to use the track name, but only the track name – no artist, no lyrics, just the track.

Tasked with only using Monotype fonts (our hot metal versions are a maximum size of 72pt) and having been given the shortest title of the lot – Go – we needed a clever solution to make an impact on an A2 poster.

So we turned to the record itself: mounted to type high the vinyl created the perfect O, with a golden ‘label’ creating the counter. FF Super Grotesk, released digitally in 1999, was laser cut at 504pt (or 7”) to provide the G. The track listing tells you the rest.

Produced and printed in three colours in an edition of 100 and sold in aid of Nordoff Robbins.
