A kids earphone packaging project focusing on sustainability through the use of cartonboard.

This packaging project was in response to a Procarton Young Designers Awards brief to design packaging made of cartonboard as a more sustainable alternative to current packaging.
I chose earphones because a majority of current earphone packaging is plastic clamshell and blister packaging that is single use and contributing to the global issue of rising plastic waste.
The outer sleeve is designed to look like the character inside is peering out of the box, waiting to be bought by the consumer. This also allows the consumer to choose which colour character they would prefer either for themselves or their child.
The child receives a coloured character inside the box which can be used to store the earphones when they are not being used, by placing them back inside the character and hooking the earbuds into the 'ears', creating a fun graphic effect of the character listening to music. It also reduces the risk of the child losing or damaging their earphones when they are not using them, by keeping them in a safe place where the child can easily find them.
The storage solution helps to reduce waste created by the packaging as it aims to be kept by the consumer with this secondary use.
