'Mother' explores themes of womanhood and the complexities of suffering. Drawing on connections between nature and femininity, mud is symbolic throughout this body of work due to its representation on fertility, whilst its physically grotesque state points towards the rejection of beauty and perfection. Deriving inspiration from Victorian-era hysteria; the philosophical works of Simone Weil; and feminist literature, 'Mother' highlights a sisterhood that all women share as a result of this suffering.
