Mother/Land

  • Zoë Wells

Uproar Theatre present Eilish Mullane’s full length debut. East Berlin, 1966. Arlana and her son, Audwin, live in a controlled state. Every decision they make, every word they say, is monitored. Audwin and Franz, brothers in arms, struggle against the shackles of society, united in their cause.  Traumatised by her past, Arlana cannot keep quiet and places both her son and his best friend, in danger. Rooted in history, ‘Mother/Land’ tells the story of three individuals during a divided Germany. This play looks at how much power lies within words, both written and spoken. As we live through an era where free speech is bought, changed and manipulated, ‘Mother/Land’ shows the extreme consequences of censorship.
