Mother of Pearl

Inspired by the painting ‘The Birth of Venus’ by Sandro Botticelli I wanted to depict the protective and loving nature of the Roman goddess Venus as she is the mother and patron saint of all forces of creation. The medal depicts Venus protecting the pearl as if it were her child with a single tear rolling down her cheek to convey the pain associated with birth and creation as there is no beauty without pain, there is no pearl without grit.
