Motherhood

  • Yat Sze Ashley Lo

This short film is about the loss of self in maternity, which was shot and narrated by a mother and directed by her daughter. When a woman becomes a mother and adopts this glorious identity, at the same time, her day-to-day parenting starts to vague the boundaries of individual and motherhood. She will be moulded into the static, unchanged mother identity that acts as the prison to trap her into constantly focusing on her children and family, which she can hardly care for herself. I want the film to provide every mother with provocative reflection on achieving self-care.
