Mumbai fruit market

  • Patricia Sandu

The narrative of the composition was constructed from a plastic bag holding various important fruit that is popularly traded at markets in Mumbai. They are the top grown in the Maharashtra region. My main goal, therefore, was to create the ‘sense of place’ through composing an interesting design with a graphic modern approach that raised awareness of the popularity of the particular fruit. This was further reinforced by doing a little research into the spiritual symbol found within the Indian flag. The Dharma Chakra also is known as the Ashoka Chakra is a symbol which represents the ‘wheel of law’ with each spoke indicating twenty four religious paths. The symbol is largely used in Mumbai due to the universal purpose within the top three religions practised in the city alongside Hinduism.
