Letters as muses

Muse Typeface

— Learning from mentors

When Elif was working for Jonathan Barnbrook, the very first thing she was asked to do was to design type specimens for Barnbrook’s Virus Fonts, namely DejaVu, VujaDe, Olympukes, and the likes. Working so closely with playful geometries and beauty of language, on top of being in such proximity to a designer like Jonathan, who at the time was working on David Bowie’s Blackstar album, made Elif develop a deeper interest in type design. She has been drawing letters ever since. Elif’s debut typeface for Muk, Muse, was followed by Milk and Muz.

— The structure

Muse is a single-face display typeface with upper and lowercase characters and a full glyph set. It’s a playful, geometric face with tall letters with long legs and rounded corners to be set like a jigsaw. It’s stern body makes Muse a great face to be mixed with images, like we’ve done on the examples here.
You can download Muse typeface here for free. Please feel free to play around and send us what you come up with. We’d be thrilled to see examples of your work using Muse.
