My personal space

I'm always so inspired by other illustrators out there creating the isometric illustration works. So I decided to create something much more personal, other than my own personal space. I started working on it during my dissertation paper because I needed a way to escape writing, also the paper was about the concept of "Home". It is the topic I have been researching on "What's the meaning of home?" "What is home? a physical space? a place in your heart?". That was how I started it. As I was working on this illustration piece, it crosses my mind a lot. I started adding elements that play an important role in my life, such as technologies, furniture etc that accompanied me through. Space can be so impactful to me because of the amount of time I spent there and the memories I have built all these months with it. (The Theory from my dissertation paper) The concept of home A home can be a house, yet a house may not be home. A house is a built space, typically enclosed by material walls, to provide shelter for living. Whereas, a home is built upon collective spatial memories and emotional attachment (Terkenli, 324). A professor from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Dorris Burton-Christie, explained that the “connection between a person and a specific place has traditionally been intimate and consistent over time-in many respects one of the primary characteristics of both individual identity and group-definition” (Dorris, 16). Hence, to identify a “home is then, in essence, an act of ongoing imagination” (Dorris,16). The term home also represents the surrounding environment within a neighbourhood where daily routines take place over the years, building relationships and attachment. Tanner, Brownyn, et al draws in the conceptualized home of the environment is made up of three different primary modes of experience: 1. The physical home- It consists of built structure from the raw material, to design for the dwelling to be sheltered. Space can be measured and shaped to function, culture and history. 2. The social home- The space that forms a relationship with significant others, such as spouse or family member. Even with people who may be inhabiting the same physical space. It includes relatives, neighbours, friends or even the community that occasionally visit the area to interact with the person who lives there. 3. The personal home - The space to be able to express themselves, even feeling of familiarity, security, comfortable and having a sense of belonging (qtd 199). These three conceptualized of a home can be identified as physical, social or personal space. It reflects upon the person’s own identity within the area. Occasionally, the meaning of home may change over time based on past and current experiences. Home as space has its meaning when it involves interaction with another person to creates excellent memories and purposes. Because Home plays a bigger part in everyone's life, and how individual perceive home differently. In theory, there are given many points of how people see "Home" as. After all, you only understand "The meaning of Home", in your own way.
