This work is part of my 'Friendship' series in which I explore the various places where we meet up with friends, arguably the most important relationships in our lives. A partner isn’t enough to meet all our social and emotional needs. Besides, it’s proven that strong friendships make you live longer than having a partner. The inspiration for this painting comes from having lived in Montréal as a young adult: meeting friends at the public swimming pool after work and spending time there. We’d go in the water to cool down and come back to dry on our towels multiple times, and just generally hang out together. Didn’t have to always talk, some could just be basking in the sun while others were reading. Gouache on paper.
