Taking inspiration from 1970s Railway posters advertising trips away to beautiful hotspots in Scotland, I developed and worked on a colour palette chosen with key colours which frequently repeated within the posters, and colours which were compatible with one another. The watercolour drawings were original development work, however I developed these with the use of gouache to really enhance and show the boldness I hoped to translate into my weaving. I love incorporating tartan, my family’s history, weaving and landscapes into my work, I gained so much inspiration from this project and thoroughly enjoyed the pieces I was weaving. I used lambswool to define the soft furnishings outlook I had on these samples, visualised in the photoshop images below where I transferred my weaving onto cushions and scarves, what I had in mind when I was creating these designs. This project really helped me learn to love putting my own twists on elements which inspire me such as landscapes and the posters... I feel like I have found my niche in updating and modernising neutral and natural colour palettes and combining various sources of inspiration to create unique twists on my projects.
