Latitude Festival gave myself and graphic designer, Lauren Griffin, an opportunity to create an interactive workshop in the day, followed by an installation at night. The theme was 'Neuroscience Vs Sexuality' and the challenge was to be able to engage a wide audience into a visual social. The guests were encouraged to redesign the dolls that we already familiarise with sexuality over innocents. They were given alternative fabrics, pens, craft supplies and had free range to decorate, position, and expose the doll in a new light. It is a safe to say that the child had vivid imaginations. "Attraction is personal choice, personal desire. But how we come to decide what we find attractive is a mystery. All we know for certain is that we like what we like. Unfortunately being comfortable in our own skin is very hard to accomplish. Insecurities are rife in the western world and so our workshop is the chance for people, man or woman, to come and portray their idea of the perfect person. Using the iconic Barbie doll, participants are encouraged to make the clothes, apply the make up, or even create tattoos and style the hair. The dolls are there to represent a blank canvas for each person to work with and project their ideology. Later, as the night time comes and the sun sets, the area will be transformed into a world filled with lust, seduction and arousal. The ladies and gentlemen of the night will come out to play and show themselves for who they really are."
