NEW DESIGNERS 2020 - UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL LANCASHIRE: BA (Hons) Textile Design

BA (Hons) Textile Design challenges you to look at textile craft in a new way. Students apply creative thinking to the development of new and innovative 2D and 3D textiles. We teach many traditional techniques, including felt, print, dye, knit and stitch but encourage you to interpret them, using unexpected technologies, new technologies and materials. You will also learn digital skills to enable you to access a range of new technology including digital textile print, digital embroidery, laser cutting, etc. On this course you will enjoy 'hands on' manipulation of surfaces, materials and form. Initially you will be expected to play with ideas and materials; experiment with image, pattern, texture, colour and structure. Over the degree, you will develop your skills as a designer and maker. You will evolve a design identity that is unique and original, enabling you to work successfully in contemporary professional practice as a textile artist or for industry. You will develop your creative thinking skills, learn a wide range of basic textile techniques and learn the history of design and textiles. You further develop and focus your textile skill base, enhanced by an introduction to surface design and mixed media textiles. You will learn about contemporary textile design and begin to contextualise your own design work with live project briefs and competitions. You’ll also be involved in work shadowing and placement as part of your second year 'Experiencing the workplace' module. You will develop a professional body of work, write your own project briefs, explore future contexts and study professional practice.
