Nike kit made for the Women's game

Nike Kit Drop to Goal Diggers FC- Following on from Nike endorsing the professional women's game with the launch of the specifically designed kits for the Women's World Cup, the huge sports company also decided to give out kits to grassroots women's teams including us! This was a key moment in the female sporting landscape showing that the women's game was now beginning to be taken seriously and treated like a professional sport instead of living in the shadow of the men. My favourite has to be the French poker dot. The Gold looks beautiful for us Diggers in the summer months and I love the small spade on the back!

After the launch and with the start of the Women's World cup looming I came into work desperate to chat to my colleagues about the excitement and my applausal to Nike. In the office we were participating in a wear your national shirt to work day (for charitiable purposes of course) so my excitement was hightened and gave me reason to talk about the Lionesses new and exclusive England shirt. Annoyling however this was met by various male colleagues dampening my mood saying things like "I really like the shirt but I don't think it's fair that you can only buy them cut for women, I want one for myself". My mockful response was "Well my friend you've got big enough man boobs, I'm sure it'll be a great fit!". I was also met with "shouldn't a national shirt represent Unity not exclusivity to just one gender". My response to this was "Well let's talk about equality in the game before we talk about unity between the two", "Moreover can I ask you something in response to that; why is it that a club like Arsenal for example allows only their men's side to play at the Emirates and the women are forced to play in the butt end of nowhere on the outskirts of London. So if we talk about Unity let's go back to the basics ok?".
As part of the Kit drop we participated in a shooting to fluant our stunning new strips on the Astro near the Olympic staduim. More than 150 GDFC members attended and it was honesltly a very proud moment for the club not only because we had been notified by such a large sporting company but also to feature in a video alongside sporting female hero Toni Duggan. To date we have had no males asking for their own GDFC female cut shirt, but I'm sure the orders will come flooding in.
