This book cover for Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami plays upon the concept of time and the inter-personal relationships formed and broken by the main characters. The cover echoes the modern minimalistic trends within design which also reflects Japanese culture. The red sun is very symbolic of Japan which also acting as a visual to create a sundial around the main character. The overlapping shadows represent the other characters, their connections, and their presence/absence throughout the story. The bold visuals give clues to the books main themes while being visually appealing on a shelf.
