Nostalgia is a type specimen for the typeface 'Archive' designed by Colophon Foundry
Nostalgia is a type specimen inspired by the typeface Archive feeling like a typeface that already exists.
The brief for this project was to design a type specimen for one of three typefaces designed by Colophon Foundry. The typeface Archive is described as a typeface that already exists, this inspired the theme behind my type specimen design, as it reminded me of the feeling of nostalgia. I decided the content should be a poem that reflected on the feeling of nostalgia and then decided my body text should be about the psychological feeling of nostalgia and the reasons why it is such a sentimental feeling. The poem is structured into stanzas which I used to display the different weights and sizes of  Archive. The layout of the poem reflects a memory fading, like the feeling of nostalgia. Ending the structure of the book explaining why we get nostalgic through contrasting body text, along with Archive's character set. I chose to use brown and yellow tones for the book as this gave the book an old-fashioned nostalgic feel to it, in keeping with the concept. I decided to hand saddle stitch to bind the book as this gave the design a more home-made feel.
