Not the right name is a 2021 Italian dance documentary, directed and produced by Damiano Fina. “Maybe one day we will stop calling everything by the right name” states the artist. The documentary follows an in-depth look at Damiano Fina’s artistic research about dance, alchemy and queerness.
“Maybe through dance we can heal our violent world. Dancing we do not need any names. We can wear different skins. Moreover, we enjoy ourselves with no special position, since we are part of a not-merely-human universe.” Faced with the exposure of the human organism to a social environment that is not always conciliatory, often hostile and threatening, dance is a privileged opportunity to experiment our freedom of expression. The Italian artist provides insight into its research about dance as a cathartic occasion for one’s inner-social-external world. “Today we need dance to find our balance in the world. It can be a practical answer to the problems concerning the peaceful coexistence of our species and the environment in which we live.”
