Now, more than ever, we must acknowledge the importance of medicinal mushrooms, Screen Shot

  • Emma Latham Phillips

You heard it here first (or maybe third): mushrooms are having a moment. For Screen Shot, I ask whether the UK and the US are finally waking up to a potential that the rest of the world has known about for years. Traditional Chinese medicine has always included mushrooms, unlike UK culture, which views fungi as fearful. It’s time for us to cast aside these prejudices and fully explore how this food benefits our health.

I chat to William Padilla-Brown and paediatrician Dr Cornelia Cho about how food is medicine, exploring the idea that current Western medicine is reactionary rather than preventative. Many mushrooms support our immune system and as Phyllis Ma advocates, you don’t have to be an expert to appreciate fungi.
