Nowhere Left to Turn - a Film About the Erosion of Nomadism in the UK

  • Imogen Putler

Gypsies and Travellers have lived a nomadic way of life for centuries. But this way of life has been eroded over recent decades by a series of draconian laws. For many years, local authorities have failed to fulfil their legal responsibilities to provide authorised family pitches on sites for Gypsies and Travellers – places where families can feel safe and get on with the business of living rather than being constantly moved on. Now the government’s new Police Act has criminalised stopping on any public and private land. It is the last straw. Travellers who live a nomadic way of life have literally been left with nowhere to turn.
