Paperless Poster

  • Louise Egholt

The brief was set by Ravensbourne University: Identify a cause that you care about and create a digital typographic poster that contains a message/slogan to make the audience change behavior or mindset about it. Response: When recycling here in the UK many of us assume that what we put in our recycling bin gets recycled. However, The British Plastics Federation (BPF) estimates that 46% of the UK’s plastic waste is incinerated, 19% is exported and 17% goes to landfills.* I wanted to show the journey plastic can take in a simple but effective way for the audience to quickly understand the issue and evoke engagement. By placing the coordinates of London and the location where UK related plastic has been found, such as a Tesco hot cross bun bag that was found in an illegal rubbish tip in Adana, Turkey. To keep the message short and concise when sometime you only have a few seconds of the audience’s attention, I chose to use a condensed typeface. The word plastic was distorted by hand in a scanner, to relate to plastic as a material. The colour scheme was also inspired by plastic packaging and with the intention to create strong colour contrast and stand out from the white background. *Greenpeace report “Trashed”, 2021
