Patria y Vida: The Power of Music

  • Pablo Hernández García

A powerful story about six black rappers who have rewritten Cuban history and sparked a lyrical battle for human rights. An inspiring documentary about music as social transformer. The worldwide hit is banned in Cuba and one of its rappers is in prison just for being part of the song because on July 11th 2021 "Patria y Vida" was the loudest cry in the crowd.

Such a comfort being in a editing room with the Frutos brothers, the great Javi Horcajada as post supervisor and the whole crew of Elamedia getting involved in. From the organisation p.o.v we had to deal with wide mixture of formats and materials –that eventually became a distinct label of the film. Lots of archives and interviews moulded by Beatriz, Nerea, Javi Frutos and Antonio Frutos -improving the film little by little. Talking about the harsh life artists have in Cuba nowadays. I also had the pleasure of sharing some music session in the editing room along the great Alean Imbert and Yotuel –while they tested some music along the editors.
