People / places / interests

This brief is about the things that are unique to me, like what I dedicate thought and time to not because I have to, but because I want to. For this brief, I am asked to think about my broader life, beyond being students on a graphic design course. I will have to identify and extensively research either: a community I am part of; a place I visit regularly (this could be a location, a shop, a place of cultural or religious significance, etc); or a specific interest I have. For this brief, I decided to create an editorial based on the downfall of Woodstock 99. Why I had chosen to base my project around a festival that had happened over a decade ago because I am interested in events that had happened in the past because once we can learn how different the culture was like, realising how alike we are gives us a sense of connection to the past, and suddenly history isn’t so far removed from us. Another reason I wanted to base my project around Woodstock 99 isn’t just about what happened at this particular event but understanding why Woodstock was famous in the first place. Why I love the Woodstock festival so much is that it was an opportunity for people to escape into music and spread a message of unity and peace where young people can get together and have three days of fun and music. That's why I am fond of the Woodstock festival. In this editorial, I wanted to research deeper into what happened in Woodstock 99 to find out why it went down as the worst in history. When I found out what had happened I wanted to match the atmosphere of the festival with a more grunge-type style to show how angry or disappointed the young people were.
