PEOPLE SPEAKERS

How do you craft sentimental value into an object?
I have been exploring emotionally durable design, attempting to produce an object that people will not want to discard after consumption.
These speakers are made using desks from the illustration studios at the University of Brighton, which are designed specifically for ex-students who may have used the desks throughout their time studying there. As the material is personal and memory-evoking to the ex-students, they will be more likely to enjoy the object for a longer period of time.
Excitingly, the speaker design is stored as a CAD file, meaning it can be sent anywhere in the world in seconds via the internet. This means that anybody with access to a CNC-milling machine would be able to mill their own personal waste materials. Rather than throwing them into landfill, they could manufacture well refined speaker cases that are sentimental to the individual. This would help to eradicate the wastefulness of interesting materials, and would promote people to make creative products that they feel personally attached to.
