PHOTOESSAY: March Against Male Violence

On Sunday 10 October, hundreds of people marched through Bristol to protest male violence against women, following a spate of high profile cases. A vigil took place on College Green to remember the lives that were more recently lost, including Sabina Nessa, Sarah Everard, Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman, before a march through Broadmead and Cabot Circus, finishing in Castle Park. Film photographer Alice Poole documented the day for the Cable. ‘The day was definitely full of hope, beginning with a sense of calm as hundreds gathered under a tree in College Green, to pay their respects to women who died at the hands of male violence,’ said Alice. ‘It was so nice to see so many join the march and the crowd caught a lot of attention. We then gathered at Castle Park where stories of the experiences of women on the march were shared – it was a great moment of unity and a chance for voices that were previously silenced to be heard.’
