The images provide a peek into the daily lives of the Kazakh nomads who have been grazing their livestock near the Altai Mountains in Western Mongolia for atleast 200 years. The main source of of their livelihood is their livestock that grazes on acres and acres of land. Hence in order to keep their livestock in check they rely on horses. Their livestock comprises of goats, sheep, cows, yaks, buffaloes and horses.
Horses are a very important part of their day to day life being the only means of transport. The horses are also used for their milk and for their meat. There has been solid evidence that the Kazakh people were possibly the first to domesticate horses. It seems that even before a kazakh boy learns how to walk he knows how to ride. Horses form not only an important part of livelihood but also of the culture of Kazakhs. There are songs that are sung by the locals about legendry horses.
