Play Id! - Identity Sandplay Workshop
'Play Id!' is a workshop series that attempts to examine the complexity of identity through an interactive and enjoyable approach. Using sandplay therapy as the central method, it invites participants to explore their identity by creating scenarios and playing with sand and toys in trays. The workshop aims to offer people a joyful, relaxing experience while discussing this challenging subject. Participants are encouraged to utilise their creativity by visualising their uniqueness through scenarios which involve self-explorations.
Play Id! - Identity Sandplay Workshop Series
At the start of the workshop, participants are advised to touch and feel the sand first. Then they are free to go through the whole toy collection and select anything that grabs their interest. Most of the toys from the collection are second-hand and acquired from charity shops and flea markets. The organiser sits beside them during the building process and engages in casual conversations about their choices or arrangements. All of the outcomes are later photographed and 3D scanned to keep records in the archive.
The first series of workshops took place in December 2022 and March 2023 at Camberwell College of Art, and each workshop lasted for five days. The majority of participants were students and staff from the university.
Play Id! Newspaper Series
Each issue focuses on one participant by providing keywords of the person’s identity and showing both the close-ups and full images of their sandbox outcome.
The newspaper series has 11 issues. The stack is packaged using ribbons with the workshop’s logo printed on it.
Sandplay Oucome - Cardboard Cutouts
The curator chose 12 significant toys from 21 participants, digitalised and translated them into large-scale physical cardboard cutouts.

All cardboard cutouts in this book are individual toys selected by participants in their identity sandplay workshops. The curator chose 12 significant toys from 21 participants, digitalised and translated them into large-scale physical cardboard cutouts. Each cutout was placed and photographed in diverse environments to convey the curator's interpretation under its original contexts.
The book is 52 pages, bound by hand using butterfly stitch and ribbons as the supporting material. The title is printed on ribbons using heat transfer.
