Point of No Return

Animation project for Illustration & Animation MA course in Coventry University.

I used projection mapping for creating a 3D scene out of the pictures I took in these locations so that the character could interact with the environment properly. It also allowed camera movements.

Creating the abandoned look for the St. Paul shot was a challenge because a city destroyed by war would be easier but just weathering is too subtle for such a wide landscape shot. Overground vegetation was out of question for a nuclear apocalypse. My approach was to imagine that the city was abandoned gradually. After an evacuation, there were still people living there, causing fires, braking windows, spraying graffitis and etc.
