Inspired by the essay "Notes on Camp" by Susan Sontag, and the Met Gala exhibition based on this, I looked into how Camp translates within a fashion context. It was important to me to create a unique and artistic makeup look for this editorial, in addition to the styling to create the “fashion clown” aesthetic that I was looking for. I decided to research into these looks, with the 1920s style drawn arched brows combined with a more contemporary color pallet. I found a makeup artist who specialized in this style to create the look. I was influenced by the beauty editorials in Polyester zine, which are more unconventional. I wanted the styling to portray the playfullness and anti seriousness that makes up camp. I wanted the shoot to be very colourful, from background, clothes, accessories and makeup. The direction was more playful and fun, with a lot more personality coming through from the model to make the look tie together with the poses, which were very over the top and theatrical in the style of Cindy Sherman.
