Postcards in Isolation was a series I conceived in March 2020. Unable to attend exhibitions because of the first lockdown, I found myself staring at the postcards I had stuck to my bedroom walls, many of which were bought when visiting museums and galleries. This led to me writing about the artworks on the postcards and reflecting on my thoughts about self-isolation, social-distancing and the uncertainty of when the coronavirus pandemic would end. After initial essays on Claude Cahun, Dorothy Cross, Eileen Agar and Dorothea Tanning, I was then offered the opportunity to guest edit the series and open it up for submissions. During my role as guest editor, I was able to work with a number of writers, art historian and artists to curate a series which emphasised the enduring need for art and visual culture. I am fortunate to have been able to publish work by writers such as Molly Gilroy and Rachel Ashenden (who both co-edit the feminist surrealist publication The Debutante), journalists Sian Norris and Emily Garbutt, artists Majella Mark and Selin Genc and art historians Kathryn Cutler-MacKenzie and Miriam Al Jamil, amongst others.
