BA Media and Cultural Studies - Dissertation. Model: Antony Wambua © 2014 “Educated Negro” Franz Fanon, ‘Black Skin White Mask’ The title of the piece was taken from Franz Fanon literature on the psyche of the black man, shot on 35mm black and white film this was a happy return to film photography that I was introduced to during my late teens in Sixth form also a fantastic homage to civil rights activist Malcolm X and Eve Arnold who captured many of the prominent photographs we recognise him in. “[Educated blacks] Society refuses to consider them genuine Negroes. The Negro is a savage, whereas the student is civilized. “You’re us,” and if anyone thinks you are a Negro he is mistaken because you merely look like one.” Franz Fanon
