This was the largest project I did at university, producing 12 illustrations (with 6 of those being repeating patterns) based on 3 different feminine social topics - FGM, period poverty/Chhaupadi and child marriage. The intention for this project was to produce printed underwear to sell with a percentage of the profits going directly to charities that helped with these causes. I chose underwear for two reasons - one, because it is one of the most economical items of clothing, usually being kept as long as possible and not commonly being swapped and changed in light of fashion trends and fads and secondly, I chose underwear as it suits the nature of the topics I have researched with all of them tying in with vaginal and reproductive health. I challenged myself in this project with a limited colour palette and a running theme of hands and flowers to keep a consistent theme in my outcomes. I plan to later explore other topics such as animal welfare and mental health, each with their own 3 sub categories and matching colour palettes, packaging and visual themes.
