The quest for capital gain is represented by the flippant ways of Alec Monopoly — as a game. In the iconic pop playfulness of his nostalgic motifs, the notorious L.A. street heavyweight Alec Monopoly will take the city as his own. Alongside Richie Rich and Scrooge McDuck, these mascots from childhood that represent wealth and riches are reinvented in the works for the exhibition, “Capital Games”, to turn our gazes to the state of finance and frivolity. Luxury Tax, a dip in the Community Chest, and the hope of making big bucks or blowing it all will be presented in his works made specifically for his Hong Kong exhibition. “Capital Games” will feature works by Alec Monopoly inspired by the financial goliath that is Hong Kong, taking from vintage newspapers and the spirit of the times during Hong Kong’s ascent as an Asian Tiger.
