Pulse

Using Land Rover as a brand identity, for this project, myself and five others individually created products which could be fit into a Land Rover brand extension. For this extension, the six of us decided to address issues within the narrowboating community. Pulse is solely my project, and is not affiliated to Land Rover. Current electric car batteries reach the ‘end’ of their life when they hit around 90% capacity. In 2030, this will leave hundreds of thousands of lithium-ion batteries to be recycled (which takes a lot of time and effort) or wasted (which is environmentally detrimental). The Land Rover Pulse repurposes end-of-life lithium-ion batteries by separating the 16 modules of the battery and casing them in high-density polyethylene with IP68 sealing, providing narrowboat users with an alternative fuel to their lifestyle. Additionally, Pulse sports a plug-and-play system which allows users to easily link the battery modules; currently a non-existent feature of lead batteries on narrowboats. This set up then allows the modules to be daisy-chained and placed around the boat to maintain ballast. The product weighs around 35kg and is expected to cost around £5000 but will save narrowboaters money in the long run.
