Quarantine Project while stuck in Thailand

  • Elisabeth Mayr

While travelling in Thailand to visit my family (my mother is Thai) Corona became more and more serious until it suddenly put the world on hold and travel restrictions were applied. So I decided to sit the situation out with my family. I stayed at my aunt's place in Bangkok together with my gran and cousin. My gran and aunt were cooking for me every day and one day I thought 'Let's just make a youtube channel.' - so we did. I hope you enjoy the videos as much as I enjoy making them.

This is one of my favourite videos. It's the second one we made and my gran liked the first video so much, she decided to sit with us and watch the filming process. I know her really well and she likes to talk to you all the time, so I told her she's only allowed to sit and watch if she stays quiet since it's a pain to edit sound. Well, of course she kept talking and I decided to keep one of the bloopers in the video below.
After some friends were asking about my living situation, I also filmed a short garden tour with my aunt which you can see below.
About 10 years ago, I went to film school back in Austria. Who would have thought that these skills would come in handy during a crisis. I'm quite surprised how easy editing and filming felt after not doing it for such a long time. To be fair, my camera hand is wobbly and I don't have an autofocus, so it's difficult sometimes to keep the image sharp when following my aunt's hands. We don't work from a script, she cooks, I film and in the end I just work with whatever material I have. The best part of all this is the delicious food I get to taste.
