Student Competition.
The brief asked to redesign, re-imagine, reinvent, bring alive the RCA Canteen and come up with a unique design to create an engaging gastronomic space. The new planning excludes back of house but includes all front of house elements - the architectural envelope (walls, floors, ceiling etc) and the fixtures and furniture - which should all be bespoke. When designing the directive was to bear in mind that a canteen needs to offer a rounded multi-sensorial experience where the sounds, smells and look of the food being served is considered and curated. The end product must be a vibrant, dynamic, sensual, flexible, and multi-functional space.
Our project proposed a multi-purpose, everchanging and unique concept for a space such as Royal Collage of Art which encourages a challenging and not-boring environment for young creatives to meet, collaborate, think, eat, sleep, dream.
