Red Bull Music Academy

  • Rudi Minto de Wijs

A collaboration between Red Bull London and Red Bull Paris. Featuring 7 artists playing back to back and continually from 2 countries for 6 hours.

The whole project took around 3 months to organise. We firstly had to aproach Red Bull with a portfolio in order to secure the project, show them the venue and organise event specifics such as layout and sound specifications. Secondly, we under took countless days of organising the event night itself, all this while I organised other events in a space open 7 days a week. I would continually liase with Red Bull Paris and London in order to make sure certain deadlines were adhered to. Responsibilities included organising the delivery of staging and sound system and artists demands, showing key organisational skills. I also showed invaluable PR skills in liasing with artists and promoters making sure boths needs were met.
This incredible opportunity gave me the amazing chance to learn on the job while pushing my skills to the utmost capacity. It showed me that I could deal with deadlines and high pressure situations with the clarity, conviction and calm it takes to run successul projects.
This project also allowed me to work within my small team of 5 as well as amongst a bigger international team for the first time, something that excited me greatly and also highlighted and validated my emphasis on working as a team even when individual targets need met.

I feel one of my strong points in this project was my use of social media. As we only announced the event a few days before the event itself it was key that we promoted in a smart and easily digestible way. The event was free, however, we already had a large guestlist of VIP's this meant that customer intake had to be done strategically and in an organised manor to make sure all were left satisfied. By utilising the premier status of Red Bull, as a venue, we were able to run off the success of the night and use the momentum to push forward with our social media reach and attendance figures for other nights we put on.
