Redesigning literature

  • Ioana Barbulescu

During high school in Romania, students are required to complete a reading list from which they will be tested during the final exams. The literature has not been changed for decades and neither has the design of the covers. It goes without saying that, since it is a requirement, everyone dreads reading those assigned books. The style of the cover design is outdated, they do nothing to attract the public. There is no appeal to the books themselves. Since most of the time, people would rather read a summary on the internet about the books and call it a day, my aim is to make the required literature appealing by redesigning the book covers. Taking it a step further, I created animated versions for each book cover. These would pop up once the reader would scan the QR code placed on the back cover, creating a more engaging reading experience.
