Research for film: Return To Slygo (2021)

"An ode to community, British designer Nicholas Daley presents short film Return to Slygo. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr, the film captures the musical interchange between Black British artists spanning both generations and disciplines" For this project, I carried out a series of interviews with various people who were part of Caribbean Sound System culture in the UK in the 70's/80's/90's, from party goers to sound men to Blues Party hosts. The stories and details shared became the basis on which Davies wrote the film. Filming ultimately took place in my late Grandmother's house, which was still furnished in the typically Caribbean way. Return To Slygo featured British Jazz group Sons of Kemet and award winning saxophonist Nubya Garcia, with a score by the legendary Dennis Bovell and spoken word by Roger Robinson.
