Creative writing, artist books and prop-making with arts and wellbeing charity The Craftimation Factory at Hastings Academy School. I worked with artists Janey Moffatt and Lee Shearman to create book works, writing and sculptures with Year 9 students at Hastings Academy School. We explored how art and creativity can help to deal with conflict and difficult feelings. Initially the workshops were designed to focus on conflict resolution at a local and personal level. The project began on the 13 June 2017, less than two weeks after the attack at London Bridge and just over three weeks after the Manchester bombing. The Grenfell fire took place the day after the project started. As a result, the young people focused on national and international events. They created powerful artworks and pieces of writing that expressed their concerns about the world they live in, notably terrorism and greed. We produced a short film from the students' writing and artwork. Their work was on display as part of the Hastings Coastal Currents arts festival, forming a trail in venues across the town, and brought together for a showcase event at The Electric Palace cinema.
