Responsible Forager Bag and App

  • Sophie Caitriona Woodhead

A project based around biodiversity and the danger of over foraging product such as berries. Over foraging can prevent plants from growing back and producing fruits, which in turn affects wildlife as animals need to live on fruits like these. This project encourages responsible foraging and allows the user to understand exactly how much they are taking away from an area and how thats effects the area.

The bag and app work together to encourage responsible foraging. The bag is clear so that the user can see how much they are picking. The scale that comes with the bag then syncs with the app. The app will allow the user to log how much they have taken from an area in weight which then contributes to data collection to show a user how well the area is doing.

The app uses a red amber green system. A green area is flourishing and is safe to pick in, amber is average and red means to stay away as the plants need time to replenish.
The app is simply designed to allow the user to easily understand the process of logging a pick.
The handle is designed for ease of use and to allow the user to attached the scale to the bag and weight their pick. The screen shows the user how much in weight they are picking which then syncs to the app.
