Revive is a public installation concept which transports commuters passing through the South Kensington subway tunnel from London to the Great Barrier Reef.
The project, inspired by the documentary ‘Chasing Coral’, aims to educate onlookers about the power that renewable energy sources have to save endangered species of animals and plants.
The installation features lighting in the shape of coral from the Great Barrier Reef, which illuminates the dreary corridors of the South Kensington subway, imitating the way coral colonies illuminate the ocean with colour and light.
This lighting is powered by Pavegen flooring, which generates renewable energy using kinetic energy accumulated from those who walk on it. The lights become more dim when the flooring is not walked on, communicating that the use of renewable energy can prevent coral bleaching events in future.
Revive spans 50 meters to enable users to experience the installation passively as they walk through the subway, but to also give users enough space to stop and enjoy the experience.
