Rick Owens Hotel

  • Beth Harle

Set brief to create a branded hotel for designer Rick Owens by Edinburgh Waverley Station. Inspired by the SS-18 Ready-to-Wear collection and Owens' own furniture range, the hotel takes a mostly monochrome palette, with veined-marble and concrete. Colours have been taken from the garments, with ceiling installations inspired by the bulky forms Owen's added to the figure in his bold collection. Demographic: Creative professionals, short-term stays.

The restaurant's focal point is a spiral staircase clad in a black marble which leads guests upstairs to the rooms. The ceiling installation is made of suspended coated- fabric sheets, softening the hard wall and floor finishes.
