My original proposal was to keep the same entry on the front — thesaurus: list, dictionary — but the publishers wanted something a little more grandstanding: Roget’s is *the* thesaurus, a masterpiece, unrivalled in its comprehensive organisation of the English language, etc. It was also mentioned that this might be the last (final, ultimate, conclusive, terminal) edition of Roget’s Thesaurus published by Penguin. I suggested ‘definitive’ for the front and the editor wanted ‘masterpiece’ on the back.
