I’ve lived here almost 15 years and when I get off the tube and see the fluorescent lights of the curry houses and chicken shops illuminating the evening sky, all I can say is that my shoulders instantly relax. It’s chaotic, a bit weird and was once baffling labelled one of 10 coolest neighbourhoods on EARTH by Lonely Planet. But I bloody love it. Doing a fashion shoot here sort of embodies how I feel living here. Completely at home amongst the chaos, colour and flavours but weirdly out of place as I strut along the high street in my leopard print heels to buy a pint of milk at the corner store. I’ve wanted to capture the essence of Tooting for some time, and this shoot gave me that opportunity. The people, the surroundings, the setup - it’s all just so effortless and unapologetic. The local shop owners quickly warmed to the idea of a fashion shoot happening on their doorsteps, not something you see everyday in these parts… Ironically, it’s almost cool how uncool we are. Where other parts of London might champion themselves with little to show for it, in Tooting we just get on with life. A life that’s full thanks to the multicultural community, thriving high street, and delicious yet uncomplicated food. HOME ❤️
