Capturing the essense of someone in a single session can't be done I feel. Sure you can capture emotion but capturing the essense of someone is different. I believe to capture the essense of an individual, you need to connect with them whilst the camera is absent. In both the long and short conversations you have, the essense of that individual is sometimes reveal. This is how I got to know the lovely Rosie
