Route. African Creative Laboratory

  • José Alcázar
Route is a social design and upcycling workshop in Senegal, Africa. The objective is to promote through the common language of creativity, a space where the African and around the world creatives share their knowledge and experiences.
Route intended as a passage, a road. The word evokes an itinerant spirit and the sum of experiences that play part in shaping travels; in a certain way it means adventure. In order to face Africaness in an expanded sense, we created an inclusive narrative in dialogue with people from all over the world, but aesthetically engaged with the ancestral use of colour of the African continent. In terms of graphic code, we created two dimensional planes coming into light relief —either into a typographic black or vibrant degrade, setting a visual game between the tangible and the ethereal. Despite placing the colour on the background, the palette is so pulsating that really seduces the eye of the beholder.
