RUSSEL // FLEXIBLE STRUCTURES

Master's degree project

As resumption of my previous works, I choosed as the central role of my degree project, flexibility again. Using a technology in a way to create a surface which with cutting a pattern into the plywood, can take a certain shape as the tenseness easies.
My design principles - in the course of planning a seating furniture - were to design a multile folding surface and keep its flexibility after it took shape, to be able to move further with its user. To reach this goal I designed multiple patterns and after cutting the material, I have tested the flexibility. The 7th experiment was successful and it bent for the desired shape.
For this springy seat-surface I designed an ergonomic iron framework to hold it stably. The the warm wood and the stern steel together create a singular contrast. RUSSEL’s shape was inspired by a Jack Russell and was created in cast of mind of one of my previous work, an insect-torso.
