SALOME — BFC x Charles Jeffrey

  • Heena Gulabchande

The challenge by Charles Jeffrey in collaboration with the British library encouraged in depth research and informed development. For this project I referenced 5 distinct elements, one of them having to be from the British Library archives, and developed an 8 outfit couture collection making use of Charles’ recent Loverboy collection manifesto. The project revolves around the play Salome by Oscar Wilde and the Aubrey Beardsley illustrations in the first English edition. I find that Salome personified the manifesto and used the narrative to guide this project. I also replicated William Talbot’s plant photography with photosensitive paper and flowers mentioned in Salome. Other sources were recycled from my graduate collection which allow me to demonstrate my versatility as a creative by designing an alternative collection that speaks just as boldly.
